A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes

an exhibition exploring femininity and storytelling in fashion.

A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes is currently offered by Barrett Barrera Projects for international travel to public and private institutions.

Extremely rare pieces from one of the world’s largest private collections of Alexander McQueen’s work join garments by Comme des Garçons, Alexander McQueen, Gucci, 69, Iris van Herpen, Vivienne Westwood, Charlie Le Mindu, Pyer Moss, Chalayan, Rick Owens, Gypsy Sport, Gianfranco Ferré and other designers known for their daring, remarkable work.

Produced by an international team of thought-leaders, curators, artists, and fashion insiders, A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes explores various personas of a woman, as well as symbols and storytelling in contemporary design.

Innovative designers often use symbols and storytelling to create their vision of a woman. A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes artistically explores eight personality types of a Queen, or metaphorically a woman: The Sage, Magician, Enchantress, Explorer, Ruler, Mother Earth, Heroine and Thespian. The story of each persona, which also forms the themes of the exhibition, is articulated through examples of fashion, photography, film and artwork.

Symbols seen in the work of designers and artists often carry fascinating nonverbal information. These symbols are explored throughout the exhibition through design elements.
