Statement Pieces
Statement Pieces juxtaposes dynamic works of fine art from the permanent collections of museum partners with contemporary fashion objects drawn from the Barrett Barrera Projects collection. Extraordinary garments by creators such as Alexander McQueen, COMME des GARÇONS, Dapper Dan, Gucci, Molly Goddard, Pam Hogg, and Serena Gili are presented alongside fashion forward figures in paintings from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, abstract works of the mid-twentieth century, and contemporary sculpture and mixed media works of today. The exhibition introduces innovative fashion to museum audiences and demonstrates the importance of design in a visual arts context.
