For Freedoms Billboards Now on View Throughout St. Louis

Three artist-designed billboards for For Freedoms’ 50 State Initiative are now on view through the St. Louis metro area

In conjunction with Modou Dieng’s group exhibition Cry of Victory and Short Walks to Freedom, projects+gallery is pleased to sponsor three artist-designed billboards in the St. Louis region. Both the exhibition and the billboard campaign are a part of the national organization For Freedoms, which is bringing exhibitions, billboards and educational programs to all of the 50 states in order “to spur greater participation in civic life.”

Internationally-celebrated contemporary artists Derrick Adams, Michele Pred and Hank Willis Thomas designed the billboards currently on view. Each work reflects For Freedoms mission to use “use art as as vehicle for participation to deepen public discussions on civic issues and core values.”

As described in a recent CNN article about the project, For Freedoms founders “[Eric] Gottesman and and [Hank Willis] Thomas say that the new billboards are an attempt to add depth to America’s current political discourse, which they see as reductive and toxic.”

These billboards were located in St. Louis City as well as the County (near St. Charles, MO) and were viewable from September through mid-November of 2018.
